Trauma

Trauma is our response to deeply disturbing events that overwhelm our ability to effectively cope. Many of us have some form of trauma; however, it sometimes takes help to heal and learn how to effectively manage our response to it.

Common Types of Traumatic Events Include :

  • Abuse – Physical, Emotional or Sexual
  • Exposure to Violence
  • Childhood Neglect
  • Relationship with Someone Suffering from a Substance Use Disorder
  • Sudden Loss

If you have experienced any of the above, you may have a traumatic response to these events. Nearly 3 in 4 Americans, or 70% of the population have experienced trauma at some point in their lives.  According to studies, nearly 90% of all clients treated for behavioral health have experienced some type of trauma in their lifetime. Trauma is not only one of the most common reasons that people seek help, it also has a very high success rate with the right, proven-treatment.

Most of us, when we experience trauma, develop maladaptive coping strategies to try and manage the symptoms. We may engage in unhealthy eating, overuse substances, find ourselves using anger or violence, or simply disengage from the world. Here at Shift Happens Transformative Counseling we will help you to uncover the root of the trauma, work through what happened, and develop healthy coping skills that will allow you to manage your response to the traumatic event(s). We use proven, evidenced-based strategies such as EMDR and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you heal through whatever difficulties you have been through.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Let us help you to find that inner peace you have been searching for.  Let us shift your response and transform your life!
